Biocluster Finland – Energy and Resource Wisdom for Developing the Countryside

Energy and Resource Wisdom for Developing the Countryside Event took place at Haapavesi Folk High School and online on 13 October 2022. Biocluster Finland organised the event together with University of Oulu, Natural Resources Institute Finland and Oulu University of Applied Sciences.

Because minister Mika Lintilä was unable to attend the event, secretary of state Ann-Mari Kemell brought forth the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment’s view on developing a biocluster from Haapavesi as well as the national needs for such a project. The project manager Anne Sormunen described how Biocluster Finland has evolved since the beginning of the project. Local businesses linked to bioenergy field depicted their needs for further research and development. The representatives for research organisations contemplated on future directions and trends based on latest research and projects that are already in progress. After the event the participants were offered dinner at Lönni Manor, where they were encouraged to freely discuss all possibilities related to biocluster.

University of Oulu covered all costs of the event. Biocluster Finland took care of organising the event locally. Approximately 60 people took part in the event and 25 stayed for dinner. Most participants were business owners and researchers, but some students of bioenergy and related fields were also present.
